Josh McCulloch’s role in the South Alabama football program’s rebuild effort figures to be significant.
The 6-foot-3, 330-pound freshman offensive lineman could be part of a core that comes to anchor the Jaguars’ offense for seasons to come after the team struggled to a 3-9 overall showing this season.
McCulloch’s certainly has the experience, having led Aldine Benjamin High to a berth in University Interscholastic League Division 1 6A play during a senior season where he didn’t allow a single sack all year. He capped the year by being named to both the all-district and academic all-state teams.
According to the school’s website, McCulloch, whose older brother, Jeffrey, is a linebacker at Texas, chose South Alabama over the likes of Stanford, Arizona, Duke, Northwestern, Houston, Southern Methodist, Texas-San Antonio, ULM and Texas State.
McCulloch is majoring in communications and lists his broadcast class at South Alabama as his favorite.
