Stinson Puts Down His Pen - Texas Scorecard

The newspaper industry is suffering a rotten blow this week, with the announcement that columnist Roddy Stinson of the San Antonio Express-News is retiring, effective Dec. 30. Stinson has been an unabshed advocate for old-fashioned common sense, even when — especially when — its hasn’t been fashionable with the pretty people, or popular with the people in power.

While he has a reputation (self-inflicted) of being a grumpy old man, I found Stinson to always be both generous and energetic. But “grumpy” probably doesn’t adaquately describe his disdain for those who take advantage of hard-working men and women, especially those in high office.

Stinson was a writer’s writer, and his voice will be missed in the public square!
