The new Texas Senate is shaping up to be a very good place for conservatives, following last night’s strong showings around the state – starting with big wins by conservative heroes Kelly Hancock and Larry Taylor.
In Senate District 9, Mr. Hancock was strongly supported by voters, who were equally uninterested in seeing trial lawyer moderate Todd Smith. Both men have been serving the Metroplex in the Texas House and established records. That was a benefit for Mr. Hancock, and an albatross for Mr. Smith.
The coastal SD11 saw another conservative state representative overcame heavy trial-lawyer-funded fire to a strong win. Mr. Taylor was targeted by Democrat sugar-daddy and mega trial lawyer Steve Mostyn, who spent big… and lost bigger. Mr. Taylor’s win last night is not only a big set-back for liberal trial lawyers in general, but also for posers trying to run as conservatives.
Slightly different story in Central Texas’ SD5, where Dr. Charles Schwertner – a strong conservative moving up from the Texas House – cruised to victory.
An easy conservative pick-up was in the uncontested primary of State Rep. Ken Paxton to take over the north Texas Senate District 8.
In SD25, liberal incumbent Jeff Wentworth will be in a July 31 run-off facing off against tea party favorite Donna Campbell, M.D., an emergency room doctor. Texans for lawsuit Reform has already bet big against the trial-lawyer-friendly Wentworth, so expect a battle royale there this summer…
In the general election, we’re looking forward to seeing State Rep. Mark Shelton defeat liberal freshman Sen. Wendy Davis in Tarrant County.
