One of the candidates running to replace U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) received some encouragement this week from one of President Donald Trump’s sons.

On Monday, Eric Trump tweeted his support for Republican congressional hopeful Ronny Jackson, telling Jackson to “go get them.” Trump also quoted a tweet, asking Twitter users to follow Jackson’s campaign account.

Jackson is one of 15 Republicans running to replace Thornberry in 2020 in the northwest Texas-based district. Jackson served as Physician to the President under Presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama and was Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs in 2018, with Jackson ultimately withdrawing his nomination.

In addition to Jackson, several other candidates seeking the seat have declared their support for President Trump’s agenda. For example, Republican candidate Chris Ekstrom has been campaigning for the seat as a “conservative Christian Trump Republican” who has pledged to be an ally of the president if elected. Some other candidates, such as Republican Vance Snider, have also spoken out in support of the president in the midst of the House’s vote to pass articles of impeachment against Trump.

Voters will decide the congressional contest on March 3, 2020.
