Cartels from Mexico are coordinating with domestic extremist groups to place targeted bounties on federal agents conducting deportation operations, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has confirmed.
Intelligence received by DHS reveals that extremist groups in the U.S.—such as Antifa—are receiving instruction from Mexican cartels to monitor, harass, and assassinate agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
“These criminal networks are not just resisting the rule of law, they are waging an organized campaign of terror against the brave men and women who protect our borders and communities,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
Recent details from an ongoing investigation show that a network of gang members are tracking ICE and CBP agents in real time from roof tops in neighborhoods where federal agents are conducting operations. They are equipped with radio communications and firearms.
This has led to several ambushes and disruptions during regular deportation operations.
A tiered bounty system was discovered that incentivizes violence against federal agents.
The incentives increase based on actions taken:
– $2,000 for gathering intelligence and publishing personal information on federal agents, including photos and family details.
– $5,000-$10,000 for kidnapping or non-lethal assault on standard ICE/CBP officers.
– Up to $50,000 for the assassination of high-ranking officials.
“Our agents are facing ambushes, drone surveillance, and death threats, all because they dare to enforce the laws passed by Congress,” added Noem.
“We will not back down from these threats, and every criminal, terrorist, and illegal alien will face American justice.”
In cities such as Chicago and Portland, where federal agents are conducting deportation operations, groups like Antifa have provided support for pre-staged protests, published an agent’s personal information, and interfered with arrests in an effort to protect cartel-linked individuals from being deported.
DHS states that it will not be deterred by the threats and encourages the public to report suspicious activities to its tipline at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE or via the ICE website.
