UPDATED February 24.
A special election has been set to fill Texas’ 6th Congressional District seat left by the late U.S. Rep. Ron Wright (R–Arlington).
Gov. Greg Abbott set the election for Saturday, May 1—the next uniform election date, when many local city and school board elections are held.
Early voting will run April 19-27.
The district includes parts of Fort Worth and Arlington in Tarrant County, as well as all of Ellis and Navarro counties.
Wright was re-elected to a second congressional term in 2020. He passed away earlier this month after a three-year battle with lung cancer, complicated by a recent bout with COVID-19.
His widow, Susan Wright, announced Wednesday she is running to fill her husband’s unexpired term.
Candidates’ filing deadline is March 3.
