A Sanger school district police officer was suspended over alleged misconduct involving a student and is now under criminal investigation by the city of Sanger’s police department.

Sanger Independent School District Superintendent Tommy Hunter notified parents on November 20 that the district was investigating a “serious allegation” of an ISD police officer’s inappropriate conduct with a student, according to a report by CBS News.

The next day, the Sanger Police Department announced it had received an allegation “of a criminal nature” on November 19 and “immediately” initiated an investigation into the school district’s police officer.

Neither the Sanger PD nor Superintendent Hunter identified the officer or the campus, other than that a secondary school was involved.

Sanger ISD has six schools: three elementary, one middle, and two high schools.

The school district established its own police department in 2022. The Sanger ISD Police website lists seven employees, including the chief, a sergeant, and five officers.

Sanger PD added that it would provide no additional information while its investigation is in the early stages.

The school district is on Thanksgiving Break the week of November 24-28 and has not yet responded to a request for comment.

In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas school employees—including ISD police and school resource officers—have been accused of misconduct involving students and other children, and thousands of educators have been reported to the Texas Education Agency.
