A political action committee which boosted the re-election bids of Amarillo Republicans State Sen. Kel Seliger and State Rep. Four Price last year has thrown its weight behind the incumbents running for re-election to the Amarillo City Council this May.

Recently, Amarillo Matters sent a mailer to voters 65 years old and older in the Amarillo area, asking them to re-elect the five incumbents running for Amarillo City Council. The group also backed Mayor Ginger Nelson and the now-incumbents on the council when they first ran for office in 2017.

Amarillo Matters similarly ruffled feathers in 2017, when a mailer was released as a “voter guide,” which featured the group’s supported slate. Some in the community sharply criticized the group for failing to disclose Ginger Nelson’s two opponents, Jim Lowder and Renea Dauntes.

While the group helped the current Amarillo City Council members win their first terms in 2017, they also heavily backed Seliger in his recent re-election contest against Mike Canon and Victor Leal. The group also threw its weight behind Price in his 2018 race against Drew Brassfield.

Voters will decide the Amarillo City Council races on May 4.
