State Sen. Kel Seliger (R–Amarillo) has his first official primary opponent for the 2022 election cycle.
Coahoma ISD school board member Stormy Bradley announced her candidacy for the Texas Senate through a campaign commercial released on Thursday. In her announcement, Bradley said she plans to prioritize issues such as gun rights and the unborn in her campaign agenda.
“As a business owner, a mom, and a sixth-generation Texan, I believe we need a strong voice in Austin to stand with our energy industry, support small business, defend our gun rights, and protect the unborn,” Bradley said. “I’ve been tested, I’m trusted, I’m tough, and I want to fight for our Texas values.”
Outside of her service on the school board, Bradley’s campaign says she is also the owner of Bulldog Steel, a steel manufacturing business based in Big Spring.
Bradley is the first candidate to join the race for state Senate in District 31 this year. The incumbent, Seliger, has not yet stated whether he will run for re-election. He was most recently re-elected in 2018, narrowly fending off a primary challenge from former Midland Mayor Mike Canon and former Muleshoe Mayor Victor Leal.
Candidates have until December to launch their bids for this office. The primary election is likely to be delayed due to redistricting.
