UPDATE: Judge Rules Younger to Maintain Joint Conservatorship Over Son
A jury recently sided with a child’s non-biological mother, who wants to begin medically altering treatments that will “transition” her 7-year-old son to a girl.
Jeffrey Younger, the father of 7-year-old James, argues this is being done against his son’s will. Younger had filed legal action requesting a jury trial in an effort to stop an attempt by his ex-wife, Dr. Anne Georgulas, to medically “transition” James into a girl.
Dr. Georgulas recently testified in court that James is not her biological child. He and his brother, Jude, were created via in-vitro fertilization with the help of an egg donor. Even so, the jury ruled that Jeffrey Younger should not be the “sole managing conservator” of his child. Managing conservatorship will likely be granted to Dr. Georgulas, who would move forward with the forced medical alteration, including chemical castration and hormone treatments to halt puberty, unless certain provisions are added to the conservatorship to stop it.
Such “gender transitioning” treatments carry huge side effects, especially for young children, including diabetes, blood clots, and cardiovascular disease. Once the treatment is administered, it is nearly impossible to reverse.
At present, there are no laws in the United States limiting the use of puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones. There are also no requirements for an age of consent for the procedure.
The judge in the case, Kim Cookes, is expected to make a verdict as to the final arrangements of the conservatorship on Thursday.
