In response to the intensified dialogue surrounding illegal immigration and increased pressure from lawmakers to enforce such policies, teachers with one central Texas school district have been handing out fliers to students containing advice for avoiding cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In Texas’ capital city, a labor group called Education Austin recently provided Austin ISD educators with fliers to hand out to students. The fliers, in both English and Spanish, provide instructions on what to do if encountering ICE officials.
The fliers instruct students not to open doors, remain silent, and refuse to sign anything without speaking to an attorney. They also instructs them to record and videotape any interactions – unless, oddly enough, they are on federal property – and to take down badge numbers and names.
The flier then closes out by telling students to ‘fight back’ and hire an immigration attorney.
With officials in local governments around the state refusing to cooperate with ICE, it is unsurprising that those in the public education sector would use their positions to ‘educate’ students on strategies for circumventing the enforcement of existing policies.
The scofflaw culture that has come to define the left’s attitude towards illegal immigration policies is precisely the reason why Gov. Greg Abbott has made reform such a priority this session.
