As campaign finance reports covering the first half of 2018 are being released, Gov. Greg Abbott isn’t the only statewide official vastly outraising their opponent.

On Tuesday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton reported raising $2,481,986, bringing his cash on hand total to an impressive $7,238,791.

In comparison, Paxton’s Democrat opponent, Justin Nelson, raised just over $750,000 bringing his cash on hand total to roughly $1 million.

In a statement released this morning, Paxton campaign spokesman Matt Welch said, “Attorney General Paxton continues to defy expectations and wishful thinking on the part of liberal Democrats and he will have more than adequate resources to defend his strong record of effective, conservative leadership.”

Paxton was unopposed in the Republican primary election earlier this year, and won his seat in 2014 with 59% of the vote in the general election.
