Nearly half of the members of the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) have personally endorsed Jeff Judson in the HD 121 Republican primary, according to his campaign – a challenger to current House Speaker Joe Straus.  Such a public repudiation of the speaker and his leadership is a telling sign of the growing frustration felt by conservative leaders across the state.

Conservatives across the state see Straus as the public face of a coalition of Democrats and liberal Republicans who control the Texas House. Such establishment-backed coalition-building has been to the detriment of conservative legislators and public policy, so much so that Forbes recently called Straus “the Harry Reid of Texas.”
