Texas Democrats believe that 2018 is the year Texans finally turn away from their conservative roots and embrace big government, illegal immigration, and far-left social values.
They are in for a rude awakening from voters come November.
In the meantime, they are being exposed for high tax hypocrisy on the campaign trail.
Both Lupe Valdez, Gov. Greg Abbott’s long-shot challenger, and Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, the liberal establishment’s desperate answer to conservative champion Sen. Ted Cruz, have now been connected to allegations of tax evasion.
Valdez, it was recently discovered, has several thousand dollars in outstanding property tax bills on her six properties in Dallas. After knowledge of the unpaid taxes was disseminated online, Valdez turned around and blamed Gov. Abbott, claiming he was the reason property taxes were so high.
Although the irony may be lost on her, Abbott has been a champion of property tax reform as Governor while being routinely opposed on the issue by Texas Democrats.
Likewise, the Cruz campaign recently uncovered that O’Rourke has connections to tax evasion as well. His mother, Melissa, was found guilty of committing tax fraud in 2010 for making cash deposits in order to avoid IRS scrutiny of her company, Charlotte’s Furniture. O’Rourke responded to the charges, claiming his mother had simply made a mistake and proceeded to attack Cruz, saying questions about the issue were “ridiculous.”
The tax woes of Texas Democrats’ 2018 top candidates is yet another example of the left’s hypocrisy on taxes. They are more than happy to oppose tax reform and promote tax increases, but when it comes time for them personally to pay their bills, they stick to the mantra of “higher taxes for thee but not for me.”
Thankfully, taxpayers are expected to reject Democrats’ high-tax hypocrisy in November.
