Odessa businessman and grassroots leader Chris Wray has been reinstated to the Ector County ISD Budget Advisory Council after having been removed from his position earlier this month under dubious circumstances.
Wray’s removal sparked an outcry from local taxpayers, who saw Wray’s appointment as a very positive move towards fiscal accountability.
ECISD Superintendent Jim Nelson decided he needed to get to know Wray; after going to lunch together, Nelson invited him to rejoin the council.
Nelson reportedly said he found that he and Wray had a lot in common and both want to see the district and its students succeed.
In a public posting to the Facebook group “Drain the Swamp in Odessa,” Wray thanked everyone who stood up for him, telling his supporters, “The calls, texts, and messages have been overwhelming, and I am grateful.”
Wray went on to say he is more determined than ever to hold our government officials accountable and to be a voice to facilitate change. “I will continue to fight for fiscally responsibility, I will fight for what I feel is right,” Wray pledged. “All of us won’t agree on everything and that is ok. Our disagreement should not cause division, it should cause dialogue!”
