Justin Madubuike, a former star football player at McKinney North High School now playing for Texas A&M, has made the Watch List for this year’s Bednarik Award, TAMU’s website reported.

The award is given annually to the top defensive player in college football.

Madubuike, a junior defensive lineman for the Aggies, had 10½ tackles for loss last season and 5½ sacks in 12 games to go with 40 total tackles. He also forced three fumbles, including one to go with a tackle for loss and a pass break-up against eventual national runner-up Alabama.

This isn’t the first preseason honor Madubuike earned this summer. He also has been named to the All-Southeastern Conference preseason second team.

Madubuike had a stellar career at McKinney North, earning All-State and All-District honors in 2016. He got a Scout recruiting rating of five stars.

The Aggies will start the 2019 season by facing Texas State on Aug. 29 in College Station.
