The start to Barbara Teakel’s junior season with the University of North Texas women’s volleyball team has been highlighted by repeated displays of the Celina graduate’s defensive prowess.

Standing at 6-foot-1, Teakel leads the Mean Green with 20 blocks and is second-best in kills with 110. She has chipped in more than 15 digs in three matches, with a season high of 20 against San Jose State last month.

Teakel is a year removed from a sophomore season in which she earned Second-Team All-Conference USA honors. She was named C-USA Co-Freshman of the Year in her first year in Denton.

At Celina, Teakel lettered all four years. Among her honors are two straight Celina HS MVPs.
