Lamar University senior quarterback Jordan Hoy began his final season in Beaumont with a bang.

Hoy, who played his high school ball for Rockwall Heath, led the Cardinals to a 65-16 victory against Bethel (Tenn.) University on the strength of 226 passing yards and three TD passes. He also scampered for three more scores against the Wildcats.

Hoy is looking to build on the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year Award he shared with Abilene Christian running back Billy McCrary last year. An injury to Darrel Colbert Jr. thrust Hoy into the role as Lamar’s field general.

As a junior, the former Old Dominion signal-caller was twice named SLC Offensive Player of the Week for leading the Cardinals to back-to-back road wins.
