It did not take long for the Colorado School of Mines football program to see what true freshman quarterback John Matocha could do on the field.
Previously a star at Magnolia West High, Matocha sustains the Orediggers offense with the same dual-threat wizardry he demonstrated for the Mustangs from 2016 to 2018.
Matocha is fresh from leading Mines to a 42-13 victory over New Mexico Highlands in which he threw for 236 yards and two touchdowns. In three games, he has 686 passing yards and eight touchdowns against an interception, in addition to 157 rushing yards and two more scores.
The 5-foot-11-inch, 180-pound Matocha and his new team are undefeated as of press time.
