The Conference USA Air Force Reserve named North Texas softball Rhylie Makawe Spring Spirit of Service Award winner.

Makawe started all 54 games this season for while leading the Mean Green with two home runs, and 13 putouts in 2019.

“Helping out the community makes me feel like I belong to something greater,” Makawe said. 

“Getting involved with the community is a great connection to the people that you are surrounded by. Receiving support from the community is great, and its even better to be able to support your community in return.”

Around the Denton community she has left her mark as she has spent time with the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Habitat for Humanity, while serving as the president of North Texas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  

The Mean Green reached 30 wins this season for just the second time ever  in school history, while setting a new high mark in Conference USA wins at 16.
