Gone are the days of so-called “moderate” Democrats. Now one Houston state representative is employing a self-avowed communist in her legislative office.
In a strange exchange on Twitter Wednesday evening, Jaime Puente, who serves as the Legislative Director for Houston Democrat representative Alma Allen, exposed himself as an unabashed communist.
The revelation came after State Rep. Briscoe Cain (R–Deer Park) questioned a tweet by the staffer in which he shared a video praising Karl Marx, the father of the oppressive political ideology which has claimed over 100 million lives since The Communist Manifesto was released in 1848. “This might be useful for some #txlege folks,” Puente commented in his tweet.

A simple web search reveals that Puente is currently employed as a Legislative Director in Allen’s state office, causing Cain to question whether Puente actually espoused the extremist views he broadcasted on the social media platform.
Rather than dismissing the question, Puente shockingly affirmed it, plainly declaring “I’m a communist.”

The staffer’s communist tweets are far from a new development. While working as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Texas in 2011, Puente wrote blog posts and academic papers defending Marxism.
Puente’s affiliation with an international conspiracy that has murdered more than 100 million people doesn’t merely violate the conscience of the vast majority of Texans.  His employment appears to also be a violation of state law.
Texas Gov. Code 557.022 states the following:

A person may not hold a nonelected office or position with the state or any political subdivision of the state if:
(1)  any of the compensation for the office or position comes from public funds of this state or a political subdivision of this state;  and
(2)  the employer or superior of the person has reasonable grounds to believe that the person is a communist.

The ban on communists in state government is there with good reason. Communism is a subversive ideology that has been the greatest contributor to human misery over the past century. It is an insult to taxpayers that one cent of their hard-earned money would go to pay the salary of a communist subversive.
Puente’s own admission makes it clear he fits the statutory ban. He is an unashamed communist whose salary is provided by public funds designated for the legislature.

Communism is not the only extremist ideology Puente has praised on the internet. On his Facebook page, he has praised the murderous Castro regime in Cuba, condoned violence on college campuses in response to conservative speakers, and promoted the anti-Semitic belief that “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine.”
Time will tell if Allen will take action and terminate Puente for his extremist affiliation. Regardless, with the Democrat party racing farther and farther to the extreme left, this case serves as a sad reflection of the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of the party.
