An illegal alien charged with sexual assault of a child is a Venezuelan national who entered the U.S. near El Paso.
Jesus Alberto Pereira Castillo, 20, was arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado after he was accused of sexually assaulting his employer’s 14-year-old daughter.
According to the JCSO, deputies responded to a call regarding a sexual assault investigation in August. At the time of the inquiry, Castillo was temporarily staying in the basement of his employer’s home. Around 10:30 p.m., Castillo allegedly forced himself onto the 14-year-old, sexually assaulting her. Castillo left the residence before deputies arrived on the scene.
JCSO investigators were eventually able to locate Castillo in Denver, where they placed him in custody.
As of Tuesday, he is still in custody, held on a $5,500 cash bond.
After the reports of his arrest, ICE confirmed that Castillo illegally entered the country near El Paso. He was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol in September 2023 and issued a notice to appear before being released.
Kinney County Attorney Brent Smith, who has been at the forefront of the crisis as a border county official, told Texas Scorecard that these cases show the fight to secure the border is about good versus evil.
“The border crisis is not only about enforcing the laws that protect the sovereignty of our nation. In many cases, it’s about good vs evil. This case illustrates that very point,” said Smith. “We must ensure that our children are not subjected to acts of evil like this.”
