Shortly after Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and House Speaker Dennis Bonnen held a press conference rallying around raising the state sales tax in order to provide property tax relief, projections from the State’s Legislative Budget Board show most Texans will face a higher tax burden if their sales tax increase proposal goes into effect.

The LBB numbers show that, when combining the new state sales tax increase with property tax burdens, households who make under $99,000 in household income will pay a higher overall tax burden, a group that encompasses around 75 percent of Texans according to census data.
