Republican State Rep. Valoree Swanson (Spring) may face a primary challenge from the lawmaker she defeated in 2016.

Swanson, left, could face a rematch fight from Riddle in 2020.

Former State Rep. Debbie Riddle has been telling people she is considering running against Swanson in the 2020 primary. The Harris County seat includes the seats of Tomball and Spring.

Riddle was once hailed as a conservative icon who then aligned herself with the coalition of disgraced former House Speaker Joe Straus. As a result, Swanson and two other candidates challenged Riddle in the 2016 Republican primary. In that race, Riddle was supported by establishment groups like the Texas Association of Business.

Swanson prevailed and took office in 2017 and then was a founding member of the Texas House Freedom Caucus.

Neither Riddle nor Swanson responded to inquires about the widely rumored matchup.

Current House Speaker Dennis Bonnen (R–Lake Jackson) has also drawn a primary challenge.
