Early this morning the United States’ Senate took a sad step in taking the nation down a dangerous and ruinous path. At stake is nothing less than the very health of our Republic and the security of our economy.

The question this Christmas Eve is no longer if, but how far, down the path they will push our nation… and just how difficult it will be to repair the damage they do. It’s no accident that after voting along strict party lines to spend a trillion dollars on a foolhardy “insurance” scam, the same senators voted to raise the nation’s debt ceiling.

Even as they labor under under the “pretense of taking care” of us, the facts are that these actions will harm us all.

It’s easy to be discouraged, but know that all is not lost! Many opportunities remain for us to stop this shameful action. And Texans are, and should be, taking the lead in the battle ahead.

Earlier this week it was revealed that under the Senate plan, Nebraska will be exempt from all future Medicaid payments (a federally mandated program devouring nearly a third or more of every states’ budgets), as a “gift” to get a senator’s vote. That blatantly unfair – and possibly unconstitutional – provision grabbed the notice of Texas’ Attorney General, Greg Abbott. He is coordinating with other states to find ways to challenge it – possibly helping to undo this monstrosity’s unholy coalition as it heads into the House-Senate reconcilliation process.

Similarly, Texas’ Governor, Rick Perry, is mobilizing the nation’s governors against this massive restructuring of federal power and the national economy.

You and I must also take action.

First, spend these next two weeks burning up the phones in Washington, DC. I rarely suggest that people make calls, and even more rarely suggest calling people for whom you cannot vote. This is an exception.

If they are going to continue this foolhardy exercise, they must know they are going against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of Americans. If they will feel the heat of the American people, there is a chance they will see the light. Ask your friends in relatives around the state and nation to do likewise.

Second, don’t give up! Indeed, fight harder!

Now more than ever we need to support candidates who will unravel – not moderate – this legislative abomination. At every level of government, we must elect men and women who will be willing to stop it. One way to do that is to support the Empower Texans PAC, as we support those lawmakers and candidates willing and able to push back against ObamaCare and all it represents.

We don’t need cowardly calls for compromise; in every level of government we need courageous conservatives working for the people!

We must remember, and remind all politicians, that they work for us. The laws of the land still empower the people. We must not go meekly into the night thinking we’ve lost, but make our voices powerfully heard knowing we can still turn the tide.

Despite – because of! – the news this morning, we must stay diligently and vigilantly in the fight. I am optimistic, and confident, that liberty will triumph.
