Lewisville Mayor Rudy Durham, who is also Denton County’s chief appraiser, claims conflict-of-interest legislation targets him and harms voters. Denton’s appraisal district is in the midst of a public integrity investigation.
Lewisville’s mayor is also Denton County’s chief appraiser. State Sen. Paul Bettencourt says he will file legislation to ban this conflict of interest.
Two members of the appraisal district’s board of directors are local government officials, and they hired the mayor of Lewisville as chief appraiser.
Katy ISD’s recent election ushered in George Scott to replace a 27-year incumbent. Scott has long been a reform activist who has been focused on fixing the district.
