Winner of the “Most Frivolous Legislation Filed Yet” Award goes to Rep. Ryan Guillen (D-Rio Grande City). He wants to micro-manage college football schedules of Texas A&M and the University of Texas.

Mr. Guillen is a pleasant and affable fellow. Like me, he’s a graduate of Texas A&M. But unlike me, Mr. Guillen wants the legislature to require the Aggies and the Longhorns to play an annual football game.

I miss the A&M-UT match-ups as much or more as anyone… but a legislative mandate? Really? Maybe they should balance the budget without gimmicks first? Cut a few taxes? End a few regulations?

Since the Texas House won’t even correctly record its time in the House Journal, I’m pretty sure legislators shouldn’t be micromanaging anyone else’s schedules – football or otherwise.
