Amarillo Mayor Ginger Nelson has drawn another challenger ahead of May’s municipal election — Judge Rich Herman.

Herman, a Republican and former Potter County Justice of the Peace, announced his intention to run for mayor on January 1. This also marked the end of his four-year term as JP; Herman lost his primary re-election bid to Robert Taylor. According to the Amarillo Pioneer, his platform is focused on public safety and services.

Herman is the third candidate to announce their intention to run for mayor in 2019. In addition to Nelson’s bid for re-election, local activist and paralegal Claudette Smith has also announced plans to run.
