The anti-school choice incumbent faced considerable opposition for his voting record on educational freedom.

Republican State Rep. Travis Clardy of Nacogdoches lost the primary election to local businesswoman Joanne Shofner for House District 11.

House District 11 encompasses Nacogdoches, Newton, Panola, Rusk, Sabine, and Shelby Counties.

Clardy came under fire for his vote against Gov. Greg Abbott’s proposed school choice package.

Shofner therefore received the endorsement of Gov. Greg Abbott, as well as former President Donald Trump, Texas Right to Life, Texas Home School Coalition, and Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller.

Meanwhile, Clardy received the endorsement of Attorney General Ken Paxton, as he was one of the Republicans who voted against impeaching Paxton.

Shofner posted on X following her win, “THANK YOU EAST TEXAS”

As there is not a Democrat running for HD 11, Shofner will face no opposition in the General Election.
