An analysis finds that among Texas public universities, Texas A&M offers the highest return on investment for a bachelor’s degree.
According to calculations made by the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity, Texas A&M students earn an annual average of $51,963 one year after graduating with a bachelor’s degree, compared to the state average of $47,340.
FREOPP calculates return on investment by analyzing how much a college education increases lifetime earnings after college costs have been deducted.
After ten years, A&M graduates with bachelor’s degrees earn an average of $85,685 annually, compared to $76,875 for other Texas universities.
Graduates with degrees in high-demand STEM fields are the highest earners, according to a ranking by FREOPP. Petroleum engineering at A&M ranks as the top degree for return on investment.
A bachelor’s degree in business at A&M ranks second for return on investment and is the only non-STEM degree on the list. Chemical engineering degrees hold the fourth position, and marine transportation is ranked fifth.
Texas A&M’s College of Engineering has more than 25,000 students enrolled throughout 15 departments.
Students in the College of Engineering must first be accepted into a general engineering program. After completing several courses, they can apply for a specialized program in a particular department.
