Copy Editor

Texas Scorecard, a leading news organization focused on covering government and culture in Texas, is seeking a copy editor to join our team.

The ideal candidate will be a meticulous editor with a passion for ensuring polished written works, the ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, and a passion for promoting self-governance. Overall, the copy editor’s main task is to ensure the technical quality and readability of Texas Scorecard’s copy.

This is a full-time position located in our Leander, TX office or remotely.

Qualifications

• A desire for the success of Texas Scorecard’s mission

• A passion for impacting culture and an interest in serving fellow Texans

• Strong understanding of correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling

• Ability to edit a written work for accuracy, tone, and clarity

• Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills

• Proficiency in AP Style and WordPress is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

• Edit daily news articles covering the issues affecting Texas’ citizens

• Collaborate with other departments to ensure their outgoing copy is proofread

• Report to the managing editor and assist with extraneous tasks as needed
• Be available for occasional evening and weekend editing needs
