Vice President JD Vance will travel to South Texas this week to headline a midterm rally and participate in the groundbreaking of a multibillion-dollar shipyard project in Brownsville.
The Trump 47 Committee announced Vance will be the special guest speaker at a rally Wednesday, September 30, at the Harlingen Convention Center. Doors open at 10 a.m., with the event beginning at noon.
The visit comes as Republicans campaign for several congressional seats in South Texas, including Texas’ 34th Congressional District, where Republican Eric Flores is challenging Democrat incumbent U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez.
Vance is also expected in Brownsville that day for the groundbreaking of Saronic’s Port Alpha shipyard.
The company plans to invest more than $3 billion in the project, which is expected to create up to 10,000 direct jobs and produce autonomous vessels for the U.S. Navy and allied nations. The 835-acre facility is expected to begin operations in 2028.
Vance’s visit comes just three weeks after Republicans gathered in Dallas for the RNC’s first-ever midterm convention.
Trump is scheduled to return to the region the following day for a midterm rally in Durant, Oklahoma.
The RNC says the location was selected in part to reach voters in Texas while also supporting Mike Mazzei, the Republican nominee for Oklahoma governor. Trump’s rally is scheduled for Thursday evening at the Choctaw Event Center.
