A federal judge sentenced a Mexican national to 43 months in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States following multiple prior removals.
Following his imprisonment, Guillermo Emeterio Alonzo-Salazar is expected to face removal proceedings.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, Alonzo-Salazar has been removed from the United States three times previously. He was first removed in May 2014, returned illegally and was removed again in March 2022 and August 2025.
On December 15, 2025, law enforcement encountered Alonzo-Salazar in Laredo and determined that he was again unlawfully present in the United States.
Alonzo-Salazar has prior convictions for illegal reentry and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Authorities also documented a history of human smuggling.
The court also considered Alonzo-Salazar’s conduct while detained following his latest arrest when imposing the sentence.
While being held at the Rio Grande Processing Center, Alonzo-Salazar, identified by authorities as a member of the Paisa gang, and nine other detainees assaulted another inmate.
The case comes as the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas continues to prosecute individuals accused of illegally entering or reentering the United States.
In the week of September 4 through September 10, federal prosecutors filed 150 cases involving felony reentry after a prior removal, according to the office.
The Southern District of Texas covers 43 counties and more than 10 million people across approximately 44,000 square miles. The district’s seven divisions work with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies on immigration and border-related prosecutions.
Alonzo-Salazar will remain in federal custody pending his transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility.
