Amarillo criminal defense attorney Steven Michael Denny is gearing up for a possible bid for a seat on the Seventh Court of Appeals.

On Thursday, the Republican attorney filed a treasurer appointment with the Texas Ethics Commission for a possible bid for the Place 4 seat on the bench. Denny said via text that he plans to run for the seat if the rumors of Justice James T. Campbell’s retirement are true.

“I do not intend to run against Justice Campbell if he decides not to retire,” Denny said.

Denny previously ran for the 320th District Judge position in the 2018 Republican Primary election. Denny placed second in the primary election and lost the runoff to eventual general election winner Pamela Cook Sirmon.

Candidates can begin filing for positions on the ballot in November.
