A former teacher for Barbers Hill Independent School District was arrested for a second time in two weeks on new charges related to her alleged sexual intercourse with a student.
Molly Colleen Spears, 35, was re-arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison.
Earlier this month Spears was arrested and charged with improper relationship between educator and student, also a second-degree felony. She was out of jail on bond at the time of her second arrest.
The new charges are connected to the previous case, according to a statement released by the Mont Belvieu Police Department.
Spears was a language arts teacher at Barbers Hill High School in 2023 when she was accused of having sex with a male student.
A Chambers County grand jury indicted Spears in February 2024. According to the indictment, Spears engaged in “sexual contact and sexual intercourse” with the boy.
For unexplained reasons, authorities waited a year to arrest Spears.
She was first jailed on February 11, 2025, and then released on a $50,000 bond.
Spears was booked into the Chambers County Jail again on February 27 and held on a $200,000 bond.
According to Barbers Hill ISD, Spears was allowed to resign in 2023 when the misconduct allegations arose. State records show Spears’ teaching certificate has been “inactive” since September 2024 and is under review by the Texas Education Agency.
In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas teachers have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children.
