New documents obtained by The Dallas Express show that the City of Dallas’ interim manager used taxpayer dollars to travel to a leftist event.
Interim City Manager Kimberly Tolbert spent $3,000 of Dallas taxpayer monies for a four-day trip to the National Forum of Black Public Administrators in April.
Tolbert was the city’s deputy manager at the time. She was appointed in February to temporarily replace outgoing City Manager TC Broadnax and officially took over the interim position on May 2.
According to the NFBPA’s website, the organization is the “principal and most progressive organization dedicated to the advancement of black public leadership in local and state governments.” Despite the organization touting itself as an “independent, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,” it highlights its left-leaning political stances.
The documents show that Tolbert’s travel costs for the NFBPA event amounted to nearly $1,500 for a four-night stay at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, $800 for registration, $350 for airfare, and $250 for her per diems.
This trip brought the total cost of her travels to $13,000 since October 2023.
Although the travel documents only reveal Tolbert’s costs for her trip to the conference in 2024, previous social media posts show she has been a recurring attendee at the yearly forum as early as 2017.
A previous report from The Dallas Express uncovered that Tolbert has also attended feminist conferences and “equity and inclusion” luncheons, which cost taxpayers upwards of $5,000.
The 2024 Dallas Community Survey revealed that the top five problems facing city residents are homelessness, crime, drugs, infrastructure/streets, and aggressive solicitation/panhandling.
However, it seems as though Tolbert’s travels can rarely be connected to addressing the city’s problems.
Tolbert’s office has not responded to a request for comment.
