Dallas County Democrats voted to ditch District Attorney John Creuzot, choosing challenger Amber Givens in Tuesday’s Primary Election.

Unofficial results show Givens won nearly 54 percent of the quarter-million votes cast in the race.

Creuzot conceded Wednesday.

He was first elected as Dallas County’s district attorney in 2018. His soft-on-crime policies, including releases of violent suspects with low or no bail, earned him the nickname “Let ‘Em Go” Creuzot.

Earlier this year, Creuzot joined a coalition of progressive prosecutors plotting to “fight” ICE agents working to detain criminal illegal aliens.

Givens is a former district court judge who was first elected to the bench in 2014.

She resigned from the 282nd District Court in December to challenge Creuzot, who in 2021 had threatened to “open a criminal investigation” into her alleged judicial misconduct that occurred in online court proceedings during COVID-19 shutdowns.

The allegations led the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct to issue a reprimand, which Givens called a “politically-motivated attack.” She also received a public admonishment for misconduct in two other cases.

Givens ran on a platform of fairness, accountability, and rebuilding trust in the county’s justice system.

No Republican ran for the office, so Givens will be unopposed in November and will become Dallas County’s next district attorney.
