Yesterday, the Office of the City Secretary announced the results of their verification process of the “Citizen Initiative Petition Declaring Lubbock a Sanctuary City for the Unborn.” The petition was determined to be valid.

According to a press release from the City of Lubbock, “It contains [an] excess of the required amount of valid signatures.”

The city secretary reports, “A total of 5,780 signatures were submitted, 5,109 were reviewed, 583 were disqualified, and 4,526 signatures were validated as ‘qualified’. The petition is valid and is certified as such. The requirement to see a forced vote on the ordinance was 3,651 valid signatures.”

The Lubbock City Council will be presented with the signatures on November 2, 2020, and from that point, the city council will have 30 days “to hold a public hearing and to take final action by either adopting or rejecting the ordinance thus initiated by the petition.”

If the city council votes down the ordinance, it will go before the citizens of Lubbock in a special election.

Right To Life of East Texas has been working with West Texas For Life, Raiders Defending Life at Texas Tech, Young Conservatives of Texas – Texas Tech Chapter, Project Destiny, Pro-Life Waco, Texas Right To Life, and a multitude of churches throughout the Lubbock area to do everything we can to fight against the murder of innocent unborn children in Lubbock, Texas.

Right To Life of East Texas would like to thank State Sen. Charles Perry (R-Lubbock), State Rep. Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock), and State Rep. John Frullo (R-Lubbock) for presenting the City of Lubbock with this ordinance; the Initiating Committee, who filed to start the initiative and referendum; the citizens of Lubbock who signed the petitions; everyone who worked tirelessly to help collect and pre-verify the signatures; and the city secretary’s office for doing their due diligence in the signature verification process.

We are one step closer to seeing the City of Lubbock join the growing number of cities across Texas that have passed enforceable ordinances outlawing abortion within their city limits.

May babies never be murdered in Lubbock, Texas. For Lubbock and for life—we stand united!
