A left-wing PAC announced this month they are relaunching as an effort to defeat conservative Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and his supporters.
The deceptively-named Parent PAC was launched in 2005 with the goal of defeating school choice reforms. Over the years, the PAC has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars supporting Democrats and liberal Republicans who oppose expanded parental choice in education. In 2014, Parent PAC notably endorsed and supported Democrat Wendy Davis in her campaign for governor against Greg Abbott.
The group uses its Orwellian name to cast itself as an effort by public school parents to promote education. In fact, the group works against parents and for the failed status quo in public education.
Now Parent PAC is relaunching itself and training its guns on Patrick—attempting to recruit a challenger to defeat him either in the Republican primary or in the general election in 2018.
The group is headed by Carolyn Boyle, a former Texas Education Agency bureaucrat and PR professional.
Prior to heading Parent PAC, Boyle was the coordinator for the anti-school-choice “Coalition for Public Schools.” Along with organizations like the Texas Association of School Boards, Texas Association of School Administrators, and teachers’ unions, the coalition also includes several anti-Christian organizations, including the Texas Freedom Network, which was founded by Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards, the ACLU, and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State.
Parent PAC’s treasurer is Blake Powell of the Austin law firm Powell & Leon, which caters legal services exclusively to public schools. That firm was recently behind efforts to charge Texas Values more than $200,000 in response to open records requests to Dripping Springs ISD related to the district’s policy allowing biological males in female bathrooms.
If parents really want to defend their children and promote their education, they’ll reject Parent PAC and support conservatives like Patrick.
