Disgraced former congressman Blake Farenthold has a new job at the taxpayers’ expense: he’s the new “legislative liaison” for the Calhoun Port Authority in Port Lavaca.
Farenthold resigned from Congress in disgrace in April, following revelations that he used $84,0000 in taxpayer funds to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit. He promised to repay taxpayers, but despite even receiving criticism from Gov. Greg Abbott, Farenthold has not yet done so.
According to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Farenthold will be paid $160,000 by the port authority.
Legislative liaison is government-speak for a tax-funded lobbyist. He will be responsible for “increasing the small port’s presence and visibility with federal lawmakers, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Trump administration and other police makers.”
The port is governed by an six-member board of commissioners elected to four-year terms. The president of the board – Randy L. Boyd, who also heads RLB Contracting in Port Lavaca – has been a big donor to Farenthold’s congressional campaigns.
