A one-time coach in Katy Independent School District is going to jail after admitting to sexual contact with a 15-year-old student.

At least five female students reportedly accused Lonnie Teagle, 39, of making inappropriate sexual comments and touching them while they were at school, including grabbing and “spanking” the girls.

Teagle was the head football coach at Paetow High School in Katy ISD for about six months. He resigned from the job in October 2022 after two girls reported his alleged behavior.

In November 2022, Teagle was arrested and charged with improper relationship between educator and student and indecency with a child. Both are second-degree felonies punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison.

Teagle waived his right to a trial and pleaded guilty to an improper relationship; the indecency charge was dropped.

He was sentenced last week to 120 days in jail and eight years of probation.

Teagle also agreed to surrender his teaching certificate, which is currently active, and to have no contact with children under the age of 17.

Scores of Texas teachers have been charged with sex crimes involving students and other children.
