Kara Hernandez, a now-former middle school teacher in Fort Bend Independent School District, has been arrested and charged with having an improper relationship with a student.

The offense includes sexual contact or sexually explicit communication with a student, regardless of their age.

Hernandez, who taught at Ronald Thornton Middle School, is also charged with indecency with a child by sexual contact. According to the indictment, Hernandez attempted to use the student’s hand for sexual gratification.

She was arrested on February 14, and her bail was set at $50,000. She posted bail on February 17.

A Fort Bend ISD spokesperson told Texas Scorecard, “The district took action immediately after allegations came to light, and during our investigation, the teacher resigned in lieu of termination in September 2024.”

According to the indictment, the crimes occurred in 2022.

Her teaching certificate is under review by the Texas Education Agency.

In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas teachers have been accused of sex crimes.
