UPDATED February 19.

A Frisco elementary school teacher is accused of a sex crime in connection with an ongoing police investigation.

Michael Cheek, 48, was arrested and charged with invasive visual recording, a state jail felony punishable by 180 days to two years in jail.

Cheek is a third grade classroom teacher at Phillips Elementary School in the Frisco Independent School District.

According to a statement from Frisco ISD, Cheek is on administrative leave and is prohibited from being on campus or near students.

According to a report by CBS News, an arrest affidavit alleges Cheek inappropriately touched a 10-year-old girl in his classroom and used his phone to take photos under her skirt.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority, and as soon as the District became aware of the allegations, we began working in full cooperation with the Frisco Police Department,” the district stated. “We trust law enforcement to conduct a complete and thorough investigation into these allegations. We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement as the investigation moves forward.”

The Frisco Police Department investigated the case and made the arrest.

“Police became aware of allegations of misconduct and immediately began working in coordination with the district, while conducting a criminal investigation that led to the arrest,” the department stated Tuesday.

Investigators seized Cheek’s phone and reportedly discovered inappropriate photos of student who made the allegations.

Anyone with information regarding this case or related offenses is asked to contact the Frisco Police Department at (972) 292-6010.

Police confirmed Wednesday morning that Cheek was being held in the Frisco City Jail awaiting arraignment. He was later released on a $15,000 bond.

Cheek is married with three daughters, according to a staff biography posted by the teacher.

Online records show Cheek has worked for Frisco ISD since 2016.

Cheek’s teaching certificate is under review by the Texas Education Agency’s Educator Investigations Division.

Over the past few years, a growing number of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes, and thousands have been reported to the TEA for sexual misconduct. At least 22 Frisco ISD educators were reported for sexual misconduct from October 2021 through August 2025.

Legislation passed last year as House Bill 1465 requires criminals convicted of invasive visual recording to register as sex offenders.
