Just six months ago the Houston Chronicle editorial board was chastising State Rep. Hubert Vo for being a “slumlord.” Now they’ve endorsed him. It would appear the Houston Chronicle just cannot stomach the idea of replacing an ineffective left-winger, even a lefty slumlord, with an effective reformer.

Remember, Hubert Vo used official stationary to try to get the Houston Police Department to back off from examining his apartment complexes (that’s abuse of power in most people’s books). He apparently did nothing to address the issue of the slums until the Houston Chronicle caught him red-handed!

But now, the Chronicle opines, “Vo has learned his lesson and deserves to continue representing his constituents.”

He has? Really? Or did he just promise to keep up his far-left voting record?

This is the same Hubert Vo who voted against taxpayer interests 77 percent of the time last legislative session.

Facing Vo in the general election is Greg Meyers, a strong fiscal conservative who has a proven track record of promoting positive reforms. In his time on the HISD school board, Meyers was recognized by teachers and parents alike for his commitment to demanding – and rewarding – results-based leadership.

We’ve seen Hubert Vo’s management of apartment complexes. We’ve seen his voting record. Both lead to the same, slummy conditions for the people living under him.

That the Houston Chronicle would prefer a slum-running, power-abusing liberal says as much about them as it does about him.
