A Honduran man wanted in connection with charges of attempted indecency with a child was recently identified, revealing a history of similar offenses dating back to 2017.
Houston police are searching for 43-year-old Carlos Jose Ayala Morales, who has been charged with felony attempted indecency with a child. The release of his identity has led to concerns regarding a clear pattern of similar offenses.
On January 27, 2025, after 3 p.m., as children were walking home from school, Morales allegedly approached a seven-year-old girl and engaged in inappropriate behavior. Security footage from a nearby home showed him in the area before the incident and fleeing afterward. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
Harris County records show that Morales was previously charged in 2017 with multiple counts related to indecency with a child and evading arrest, leading to a seven-year prison sentence. According to a press release from the Houston Police Department back in 2017, Morales was allegedly connected to “at least 10 sexual assault incidents in the northeast Houston and Harris County areas.”
The release from 2017 described an eerily similar pattern to what happened just a couple of weeks ago: “[A string of] sexual assaults of school-aged juvenile females, seven to 15 years of age, as they traveled to and from school. Ayala would come up behind the victims and inappropriately touch them through their clothing.” Furthermore, Morales was even accused of attempting to abduct a seven-year-old girl at the time.
After serving over five years in prison, Morales was released into the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on February 22, 2024. According to records from 2017, ICE had placed a detainer on him, but it was lifted upon his conviction.
Despite his indecency with a child conviction, a search of the Texas sex offender registry did not show his name.
