A recent operation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Houston led to the arrest of an illegal alien and suspected MS-13 gang member after a dramatic attempt to escape authorities.
ICE officers identified and pursued Marlon Odir Gomez Hernandez, a 29-year-old Salvadoran national, in Houston as part of a targeted enforcement action.
When approached by ICE agents, Gomez Hernandez fled into a nearby laundromat, climbing through ceiling panels to the roof and ultimately landing on a business sign, where he became stuck and was soon apprehended.
He was transferred to the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas, pending immigration proceedings.
Authorities state that Gomez Hernandez illegally entered the United States after a January 2022 arrest in El Salvador, where he and other suspected MS-13 members were charged with aggravated extortion.
MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha, is known for involvement in serious crimes such as murder, drug trafficking, and extortion. ICE officials said that Gomez Hernandez’s apprehension removes a threat from the community and mitigates risks associated with gang violence.
ICE Houston Field Office Director Bret Bradford emphasized the dangers posed by illegal aliens evading law enforcement and noted that such incidents have become routine due to what he described as “violent rhetoric” from local officials opposing immigration enforcement.
The agency has reported a significant increase in arrests of gang-affiliated individuals in Houston under Trump administration policies, which aim to target the “worst of the worst” among criminal aliens.
The case is part of a broader effort to combat organized crime linked to transnational gangs.
ICE recently reported arresting over 350 gang members in the Houston area within six months, many with associated convictions for serious offenses. The crackdown is intended to restore community safety and reinforces ongoing federal efforts to remove violent criminal aliens from American communities.
