Joining a national liberal movement against Second Amendment rights, a north Texas school principal has approved a student “walk out” for Tuesday, April 24, to push for gun control.

Mark Schluter

The walk out at Denton County’s Byron Nelson High School is scheduled to happen at 10am – during the school day. According to a flyer distributed to students and obtained by Texas Scorecard, Principal Ron Myers has approved of this political disruption of the instructional day and appears involved in helping organize it.

Attempts to contact Northwest ISD school board’s president, Republican Mark Schluter, via email and cell phone were not successful. (The article will be updated should he respond.)

It is unclear why Schluter and his fellow school board members have allowed administrators in their district to curtail instructional time so as to pursue liberal political agendas.

Ryder Warren, superintendent of Northwest ISD, recently blogged about student walk outs, in which we wrote that “school is not a democracy.” He went on to write that “children do not get to vote on how schools are run. They do not get a choice of which rules to follow, and the adults in the buildings must be in control of those campuses at all times to ensure a safe, productive learning environment.”

Warren blogged recently that the district would use the walk outs as a “teachable moment” yet the only instruction seems to be the promotion of hostility against the right of citizens to keep and bear arms.

Since the superintendent states clearly “children do not get to vote on how schools are run” then the decision to interrupt the school day with a liberal political protest must have been made by the “adults in the building.”

The flyer distributed to students reads, “WE NEED CHANGE. Let it happen NOW with YOU.”

Principal Myers’ approved event encourages Byron Nelson High School students to “wear orange for gun violence awareness” on Tuesday.

The school district leadership appears to have no plans to permit students to otherwise counter the liberal narrative being promoted during the school day.
