One candidate has filed a petition to contest the results of the March 3 Republican primary for the 7th Court of Appeals, Place 4 seat after both candidates in the race were left off of the ballot in two counties.

According to reports, Justice Larry Doss has filed a petition for a new election in the Republican primary after Collingsworth and Cochran counties failed to place the race on their ballots, along with the uncontested primary for chief justice of the court.

The race, which was supposed to be on the ballot in all 46 counties in the district, saw Doss lose his primary to Amarillo attorney Steven Denny in the results shown on the Secretary of State’s website. The results showed Doss losing the primary by 319 votes out of more than 90,000 cast.

Denny has until today to respond to the petition.

The eventual winner of the Republican primary will not face an opponent in the November election.
