A custodian who was employed by Little Elm Independent School District is in jail following accusations that he sexually abused at least one elementary school student.

Eric Lazaro Landaverde, 64, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, a first-degree felony punishable by 25 years to life in prison.

The investigation began after a parent reported inappropriate contact by Landaverde with students at a Little Elm ISD elementary school, according to a media release from the Little Elm Police Department.

A notice from the district to Brent Elementary School families indicated they received “serious” allegations on May 22 that a custodian “engaged in inappropriate interactions” with three students during the last week of school.

According to the statement, the custodian—who the district did not name—was immediately removed from all contact with students and is no longer employed by Little Elm ISD.

The district and police launched a coordinated criminal investigation that led to Landaverde’s arrest.

Landaverde was booked into the Denton County Jail on May 28 and is being held on a $200,000 bond.

A Prosper ISD JROTC instructor was also arrested Wednesday and charged with indecent assault of a student.

In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children, often with multiple arrests per week.
