A now-former northeast Texas teacher is accused of sexually assaulting a child.

Jimmy Lee Hanks, 52, was arrested Monday and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 years of age.

Hanks was a teacher and coach at Wills Point High School.

Superintendent Richard Cooper sent a notice to families on Monday indicating that Hanks no longer works for Wills Point Independent School District.

Cooper clarified that the alleged behavior did not occur on a Wills Point ISD campus or property.

Hanks was booked into the Rains County Jail on February 3 and remained in custody as of February 5.

The Rains County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate.

State records show that Hanks does not hold a Texas teaching certificate.

In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children. Two worked for Wills Point ISD.

Technology technician Kenneth Faling was arrested in 2023 for indecency with a child who was not a student.

In 2024, teacher Amanda Blakely Green resigned after she was charged with two counts of online solicitation of a minor and possessing child pornography.
